AICE Media Studies

In the title sequence of my film, the words will usually fade into the scene and fade out, about 3 or so seconds later. In other cases, some will be a part of the environment in a scene, such as on a sign, or on the ground (though still using the same font). My current title for this film is Pen on the Pavement, but while i like it a lot right now, it could change later if i think of something better. I plan to use a free font I found called , which seems to be perfect for the style I want to portray. I plan on making all of the words white, so it could contrast the settings of the movie, but if I find it too similar to where it doesn't stand out, I'll probably change it up a bit. I plan to make the name of the person being mentioned in the sequence a couple sizes bigger that their title/role.

We are still in the middle of a pandemic, so we will be wearing masks as much as possible while being out and filming. I have yet to decide if the masks will be apart of the costume or not, but we'll get to it on the day of.

It's called Art of the Title, and it seems to have a lot of cool title sequences. My genre is fantasy, so I need to make sure they have those types of movies. On first glance, it seems to have a big selection of movies to choose from. It also has a space where you can search for title sequences yourself. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to filter or sort through them. I would have liked to have been able to filter by different genres, styles, and types of media.     Low angles are used to make the villain of this film seem very powerful. This film uses tracking shots to follow the characters through fast-paced scenes, such as the chase through the marketplace. Aladdin used medium-close up shots to show the character's emotions when reacting to a person or thing. The mix of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds during the singing scenes helps to really cement the magical and nostalgic feel and it was striving for. Aladdin is a romance movie as well as a fantasy one, so they used shot/reverse shot to show the main characters interacting with each other.      The costumes for this movie were very intricate, as they needed to have them as close as possible to the animated original, while also making it very detailed to fit into the live-action, fantasy world around them.      Jungle Cruise uses high angles to show situations where the characters are not in power, or are less powerful than what they are facing. This film uses zooming to make the characters stand out against to lush, wild background. The jungle is an important part of the movie, so they use wide shot to showcase it along with the characters and their interactions with it. Ambient sound is used to to enhance the immersion of the movie, letting the audience feel like a part of the movie. They use eye-line matches to show the character's reactions to big, important scenes in the movie.     The costumes in Jungle Cruise lets the character's situations and personalities shine through, for example, the main female character wears pants in a time period where it frowned upon for women, showing her independence.      As Maleficent is seen as a very powerful camera, low shots are often used to indicate this. During the movie, Maleficent flies through the air a lot, and they follow her through the air by using tracking shots.Establishing shots are used in most movies, but in Mistress of Evil, the establishing show off the beautiful worlds created for this movie. The score of this movie captures the grandness of its classic roots, and reshapes it in a way that represents the movie's tone and setting.  I decided to go with the fantasy genre for my pitch, as it seemed to be the most fitting, and stook out to me the most. My pitch deals with magic and a lot of extravagant worldbuilding, which I think fits perfectly with the mythical worlds associated with the fantasy genre.

 The Fantasy genre focuses on the impossible, extraordinary things. The most common elements of this genre are mythology and folklore, magic, and exotic, mystical places. Establishing shots are used to show the setting and any fantastical elements in it.  Pitch #1- A high schooler discovers a portal to another world in the form of a pen on the sidewalk.     I really like the idea of creating something to do with magic, or other worlds. Even just making the opening of a movie like this seems interesting to me. Just doing the first 2 minutes of a film like this also makes it easier, as i wouldn't have to worry too much about the editing aspect of the magic. Even so, it might be difficult for me to give enough context in the beginning to let the viewer know what the movie will be about. Anyways, I won't know until I try it.  Pitch #2- A girl is trapped in a slightly varying time loop that starts over each day.     I like this film idea because it could go in many different ways. There is a lot of room to play with the characters and their interactions. I don't know how easy it would be to film, but it would be interesting to find out .  For the final task, I decided to work alone for a multitude of different reasons. My partner for the last 2 projects, Naeemah left the school, so I unfortunately don't have the chance to work with her again. I don't really know anyone else in my level of the class, and I don't really want to jeopardize my grade by working with a stranger, whose work ethic I don't know.  Besides, working with myself allows me to have complete creative control over the project, as the only person I have to compromise with is myself. In group projects, there is sometimes a clash of concepts and ideas, which makes it hard to come up with one thing to stick to, as you have to please everyone. Working by yourself eliminates that problem.  Many people find it lonely, but I actually like working by myself sometimes. It makes things easier to coordinate, as you don't have to work around anyone else's schedules. You can do the project however you'd like to, and feel proud of your own...

 Hello, it's me again! My name's Olivia Sadler and I'm in AICE Media Studies. I'm really excited to work on the final task. Working on the 2 other projects this year, and honing my cinematography skills makes me really confident in my abilities to produce a good project. The other 2 projects, the commercial and the music video, we're really fun to make, but they didn't allow you to create an original story. Yes, the music video let you show a story, but it was probably best to stick with the lyrics. I'd like to think of myself as a creative person, and this project let's me have full control of the story being told. I really can't wait to work on it!

 Nine in the Afternoon by Panic! at the Disco We finished our project! It was a really fun experience for me, and enjoyed it all. The filming and editing were both really fun, and I enjoyed the time I got to spend working on this project with my friend. My favorite part however, was the editing. It was really cool getting to see my project go from a bunch of little clips, to a full music video! The fact that I could create a smooth video like this, with just a few tools, just blows my mind. This is one of the coolest things I've worked on this year, or ever. I'd really love to do a project like this again, and I hope we do in the near future. The skills I've learned from this project can help me alot with some of my hobbies that involve video editing. I'm excited about were that can take me in my future!      Yesterday, I wrapped up filming the last of my music video, so all I needed to do was add it to the already edited video. I left spaces for what I needed to film, so I knew how much I needed to cut, speed up, and slow down each shot to match the time frame. I added the pictures to the video and I lengthened the time the picture were on screen.  I didn't add any transitions between the shots because I wanted this scene to feel like a stop motion video. I did add a transition between this scene and the next scene, to show the difference in times. The last thing I added was the journal scene where the picture falls out. I had to cut it down to fit the time, but it wasn't much work. I cut the video down to 1:15 minutes, and made sure the lyrics and song matched up. After that, I just watched It a couple of times to make sure it made sense, and I was done. 

     After filming and editing a majority of the video already, I only had to shoot a few scenes. I had to print out a few pictures we took on the first day we filmed, and film a stop motion scene of them being added on top of each other. This gave me a lot of trouble, as I could find anywhere to print out the pictures. I went to two different Walgreens, but both of their photo departments were down. We also when to CVS, but had the same results. Eventually, we just had to got to Walmart and get photo paper for our printer, which I didn't know my printer could use. We went home and It worked fine, so I got to work actually filming.       I set up my area on my dining room table, using my parent's phone as a flashlight, and my phone to take the pictures. I set up a stand for my phone to keep the pictures steady, and I took the pictures, adding one photo each time. I sent it to my laptop, added it to the video, and moved on to my other scenes.      My partner and I mostly finished filming yesterday, so I decided to mess around and try to begin editing some of our video today. The first thing I did was download the song we are using, and cut it down to the 1:15 minute time limit. I added it into my video editing software, Mini Tools Movie Maker, and started added in my videos. I still had to film the other shots, but I didn't worry about those, as I could do it at a later time.      As I already figured out the timing of the shots in the Storyboard, all I had to do was add the clips where the storyboard showed. I had to cut some clips down, and speed some clips up slightly, but it was a relatively quick process. The first scenes I added in were the scenes where we were walking around and talking. I didn't have to speed anything up, only had to trim the end a little bit to fit the lyrics. Next, I added the scene where my partner is sitting in the sand.     Today we started filming for our music video. My partner and I planned to start filing over Thanksgiving break, but things came up on both of our ends that prevented that. We headed down to a park on the beach in Lauderdale by the Sea, and we got to work. Both of our moms were there and offered to help us film, but we didn't need it at the time. The first scene we filmed was the one scene on the beach, where one person was sitting In the sand staring at the sea. We filmed the shot a couple times, to get a feel of how we wanted it to work before we filmed it seriously. We did many takes of the shot, because of different, small things we didn't like about them. Some of the takes were me filming my partner, and the others were her filming me. We both got some pretty good shots, but I think I'm leaning towards using one of the shots I got of her.      Next, we moved on the the other shots.   Song- Nine in the Afternoon by Panic! at the Disco Props- Our music video depicts friends just hanging out in public, having fun and doing different activities and taking pictures, so our props are printed out photos, fake journals, cotton candy/ ice cream, fair prizes, and/or something similar. Costumes- Our actors and/or actresses would be wearing casual clothes suitable for walking around. Each person could just wear their regular, individual clothing styles, as it doesn't matter much to the script. Schedule- We will complete the story board on November 19th. The genre of the song we chose for our music video is Pop-Rock Camera Angles, Movement, and Shots They use eye level angles in these music videos, as you can see the actors reactions and emotions to certain things in the video. Tracking shots are also commonly used to follow a character during a scene. These types of music videos usually use close ups of the actor singing, to show the emotions on their face. Costume, Lighting, Acting, Makeup, Props, and Set Clothing can range anywhere from regular clothing, to extremely dark, to obscure costumes. Lighting is usually dark and gloomy, or bright and alive, as there is a lot of variety in the genre. The acting for these videos are usually in you face, emotion heavy, basically singing to the camera.   Hi. My group for the music video project just consists of two of us. Me and my friend Naeemah. We've been really good friends since 8th grade, where we had half of our classes together, so I know we can work well together. I met her through a mutual friend who was in one of our classes in 8th grade, and we meshed well so it lasted. We're now both in 11th grade, and have had a few classes together throughout high school. We're both creative people, so I have no doubt that we'll come up with cool ideas. We both like reading, and coming up with story ideas. I really enjoy being around her and I'm glad we have the chance to work on such creative projects together. I know that this project is going to be interesting, and fun, as we are both creative minds that can come up with cool ideas. With it just being the two of us, It may be difficult to come up with out of the box ideas, as more brains means more unique ideas, but it also makes it less likely to have conflictin...

  Hi again! It's still me, Olivia. I'm an 11th grader at Fort Lauderdale High School. I'm in  AICE Media Studies and I'm in the Cambridge and law programs. I'm taking this class  because I've always been interested in the behind the scenes aspect of  turning an  idea into a visual film. The class seems really cool right now, as we've  learned  some filming terms that seem really interesting. I'm not really into being on the  camera as that's just not fun to me. However, I feel like being behind it is so  much  more fun, as you can control  what's happening and how a scene turns out.  I  don't  have much going on besides homework, but I do have a dog at  home  who's really cute.  I like reading, specifically fantasy or adventure books such as Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Creative Critical Reflection My commercial challenges the traditional conventions of its product. The main groups shown in traditional Gatorade ads are usually active, sporty people, that are normally sweating, and out of breath, which give off the perception that only sporty people can enjoy this product. My commercial challenges this trope by casting the role of a regular person, not overly sportive, but just normal. This is meant to show that the product does not have to be for one type of person, and that it should be advertised for all types of people. My commercial represents all types of people, as the product, a popular drink, can be used by anyone. The different colors represent different emotions, and in turn, different people, which is good to show in an ad.  My product engages with all types of audiences, with a range of ages and backgrounds. We finally finished! I had so much fun with all parts of this project. The planning, filming, and editing were all really enjoyable, especially because we got to work together on it. I really enjoyed working with my partner, and that made the actual class more fun. I really enjoyed the filming part, as I knew I would, but surprisingly, I really enjoyed the editing too. I don't know why, but I was sort of relaxing, even though it took quite a bit of time. I'm really proud of this commercial, as we both worked really hard on it. It's nice being able to see my work in video form. And here is our finished project!  I really can't wait for the next assignment!

  Today I finished editing my commercial. I started the day by trying to figure out how to create a split screen of the videos I was editing. I later found out that the program I was using, MiniTools Movie Maker, did not have a feature that would allow me create that split screen. I contemplated what to do for a moment, before I headed to google to find a program that would allow me to do that. After a while of searching, I found another free program, called VSDC Video Editor. This program easily let me create a split screen, amongst other things. I added the 4 shots to VSDC and began to work on it. It  took me quite a bit of time to figure out how to put the videos together and crop them onto one screen. I eventually figured it out and added white lines as borders for each video. The next problem I had to tackle was the speed of the shots. One shot was way shorter that the others, as my partner did that scene faster than the others. The app I used allowed me to slightly speed...

  Today we started editing our commercial. We finished filming last class, so we gathered all of our shots and got ready. My partner and I decided that we would edit the videos separately, and decide who's version we would use at the end. We separated and began to work. I decided to use MiniTools Movie maker, as it is a free video editing program. The only editing program I've used before is WonderShare Filmora X, but I couldn't use it for this project as it has a watermark. Mini Tool was very similar to Wondershare, and didn't have a watermark, so I didn't have any trouble using it. I started by choosing which takes I would use, and adding them into the program. Once I did that, I sped them up to make them flow better and stay in the time limit. I also trimmed a tiny bit off of each shot to make the transition between them a little smoother. At first I was testing out different transitions between the shots, but they all seemed to be very slow and none of them fit ...

 We continued filming the next class, as we still had a lot more shots to do. Once again, my partner brought the jackets and two gatorades, and I brought the other two. We decided that even though I filmed the red and yellow shots, we should bring them as backup in case we needed to reshoot them. That proved to be go choice, because after completing the green and blue shots, I decided that we should redo the red shot. Before that though, we shot the green gatorade. It was fairly easy to shoot, as I got the hang of the the angles and movements from the first day shooting the red and yellow. We didn't have any interruptions for the green shot, so I didn't need to film it twice. I filmed the blue shot next. It went well, so we moved on. I filmed the redo shot of the red gatorade next, and we were set, as that was the final shot where I needed to rotate the camera 360 degrees around my partner.   The next round of shots I had to film, which was my partner drinking the gatorade.  I started filming our commercial on Tuesday, October 5th. We got our passes and went to our filming location, which was the small grassy area in the middle of our school. I brought 2 of the 4 Gatorade props, and my partner brought the other 2 and the jackets for the costume. My partner was our actress and I filmed everything. We started off with our red colored jacket and Gatorade, and I began filming. Our first shot started with me filming the sky and tilting the camera down towards my partner. It took us a few shots, as we both messed up a couple of times. Sometimes it was me going to fast or slow, other times it was her moving or breaking character, but we eventually got through it. I has to reposition her a few times, as we kept accidentally shifting, but we eventually got the timing and angles right. There were a few people walking around, so I tried to get shots in an area that didn't have many people. It was fun, and we enjoyed filming together, so it didn't really feel...

 My group chose to do a commercial on Gatorade. These ads usually feature people partaking in athletic activities and drinking from Gatorade bottles. The people in these ads are usually wearing athletic wear, such as: leggings, shorts, jackets, etc. These ads usually feature very cinematographic shots containing motion. Some props usually include: Gatorade bottles, towels, and workout equipment. The people in these ads are usually athletic and sweating to push the point of Gatorade being known as a sports drink. The ads usually include high-energy music or sound that attempts to motivate people to excercise and as a result buy their product. The score within the ad is also used to continue the momentum in these ads. The ads also usually switch between multiple people to try to illustrate the idea that Gatorade is for everyone no matter their background or activity/sport.
